Goner!
What a start for Pakistan! Hasan Ali takes just two balls to strike after taking the new ball alongside Mohammad Amir. This was a beautiful delivery as it pitched on a good length and came back in sharp to rap the batsman on the pad. That looked plumb. Replays say that it must have been umpire's call had the batsman reviewed. Hashim Amla is the new man in and boy he needs some runs.
Build up
A familiar script unfolded on the second day of the opening Test between Pakistan and South Africa. A Pakistan batting collapse! From 101/1, they were all out for just 190, throwing away all the momentum in the process. South Africa had earlier fetched a vital 42-run lead in the first innings but the Pakistan top order erased the deficit with ease but things changed pretty quickly in the final session.
Duanne Olivier was the star yet again as he made a breakthrough post Tea and the dismissal of half-centurion Imam-ul-Haq did trigger a collapse. Kagiso Rabada and Dale Steyn also got into the act as the visitors kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Shan Masood was the only batsman to put up a resistance with a stubborn fifty before Olivier completed another five-wicket haul to finish with 11 in the game.
The stage is now set for the hosts to take a 1-0 lead. They need 149. The pitch doesn't have the same venom it had on the opening day but there is still something in it for the bowlers to keep them interested. Pakistan have had a reputation for defending smaller totals. South Africa have had a reputation for choking during run-chases but 149 is surely still achievable.
