Spare a thought for Lewis and Joseph

.... Surely he could play Test Cricket as well ....

Three for Woakes

Woakes is causing all sorts of problems here for Windies at The Oval and now he adds Samuels to his list. The batsman walks across to nudge the ball on the leg side but misses it completely to get hit on the pads. The umpire's finger immediately goes up! The batsman discusses with Lewis, who probably reminded him of Hope's bizarre review.

Poor review

There was a clear spike there so not sure why Shai Hope decided to waste the only review of the innings. It was a peach from Woakes and immediately once it went past Hope's outside edge, Woakes appealed and immediately, the finger went up. Windies find themselves in trouble now having lost two wickets in the first three overs. Samuels joins Lewis out in the middle.

Early strike

The big man impressed in his first two outings since his comeback but falls prey to the early swing produced by Chris Woakes. Huge wicket this is for England. Bowled at middle and off, Gayle had to push at it and the outside edge is pouched by Root at first slip.

Roy returns

One man's misfortune presents another man a terrific opportunity. Jason Roy lost his spot to Jonny Bairstow recently but now with Hales out of the reckoning, an opportunity has come his way again. Surprisingly, it is Sam Billings who has replaced Stokes in the XI, so Englandareplaying three seamers and two spinners in their XI. Jake Ball has replaced David Willey.

Windies (Playing XI):Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Shai Hope(w), Marlon Samuels, Jason Mohammed, Rovman Powell, Jason Holder(c), Ashley Nurse, Jerome Taylor, Alzarri Joseph, Miguel Cummins

England (Playing XI):Jonny Bairstow, Jason Roy, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan(c), Jos Buttler(w), Sam Billings, Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid, Liam Plunkett, Jake Ball

Build up

All the attention going into this fixture has been on England's starallrounderBen Stokes and understandably so. Stokes got himself into a needless mess and as a result, he has been forced to miss this fixture alongside opener Alex Hales. England are still not expected to miss their services against a Windies side, that is struggling to stop this rampaging ODI outfit.

The visitors will be pleased with the way Chris Gayle batted in just his second outing after returning to the 50-over format but he failed to find support from the other end while chasing a huge target. They could have chased much lesser than the 370-run target that was set by England if not for their failure to grab the momentum. They had the hosts at 217 for 6 but let Moeen Ali unleash himself at the death where he slammed a 53-ball century.

Despite all the off-field controversies, England will look to continue their impressive run on the pitch to turn the attention away from Stokes. Can they close out the series tonight? Or can the Windies finally capitalise in Stokes's absence and pull one back? Welcome to the live blog for the fourth ODI at The Oval.
