Bad outfield forces abandonment; Series drawn 1-1

Nope, the umpires have inspected the ground and they don't believe a match can be played here. Such a bummer for those fans, who've had to travel from the central parts of the city, Secunderabad and so. But as Shikhar Dhawan would say, it is what it is.

The series ends at 1-1. Australia won't be overtly disappointed. Nor will India. Suppose one No Result was inevitable given all the rain that had accompanied the teams at Ranchi and Guwahati.

That's it from the blog. Australia will fly back home for the Ashes. India have less than 10 days to welcome their next visitors, New Zealand. Until then. We'll sign off. Catch you soon!

It's 8PM and...

No sign of play yet. Some time back Richie RIchardson, the match referee, tried to test the outfield with his boot and ended up digging up a hole. It's gotten windy at the Stadium. Chances of play look bleak unless something changes dramatically.

Inspection at 7pm

Prakash pings saying that the Indian cricketers are enjoying a round of football on the outfield while the umpires take a look at the damp areas. Cricket can sometimes be so complicated. There ought to be a better system to mitigate rain effects on the game.

Before we go any further...

It's been pouring for days and the outfield is still soft. Prakash, at the venue, says it rained at 19:30 yesterday. The giant screen at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium now flashes "Start of play delayed"
